Video: What’s New in LR3 beta 2

This comes just in time for me! Can’t wait to try out the new features and kick the tires a bit. LR3 Beta 1 was slightly unstable when doing imports – hopefully they’ve addressed this.

I would love to be able to pre-order Lightroom 3 if I could, and simply have it the moment it’s available as most of the work I do involves Lightroom and Illustrator.

Enjoy the videos, folks!

Windows Home Server in VMware Fusion 3

I set off on a quest to get the home backup / media server / remote access solution Windows Home Server with Power Pack 3 running inside of VMware Fusion 3 running on top of Apple OSX Snow Leopard (10.6).

Why, you ask? Simply because I thought I could… A little while after downloading the Windows Home Server trial, it became apparent that there was no selection for this operating system. No matter, I thought, it’s based on Windows Server 2003, so I should simply be able to select that, right? Unfortunately not that easy. First, the hard disk type selected by default by VMware Fusion is SCSI. Without a driver disk (virtual floppy), you’ll have no luck. Also, the amount of memory available doesn’t meet the Windows Home Server requirements.

My method?

Try these settings:

– Windows Server 2003 Web Server

– No “easy install” settings

– 512MB RAM

– Remove the default HDD

– Add an 80GB IDE HDD

– Make sure the ISO is mounted

Things seem to be working at this point.

Hope this helps someone, I trawled Google and the Fusion forums with no luck.

Download Thinstall from VMware – Project North Star

VMware has recently updated the VMware Thinstall page and is now offering a download of what they call “Project North Star” – a Thinstall product.

Also not that there is a thinstalled version of Firefox available for download from the same page.

Through Dianne Green didn’t speak a whole lot about Thinstall at VMworld today, it’s good to see VMware at least touch on it a bit as the appvirt vendors are keen to find out what sort of developments are to come.

Call of Duty 4 Stats Editor Download

OK guys – I know I got a lot of contacts, emails, and a few comments that got stuck in the spam filter regarding the location of the CoD4statseditor14.rar file I had mentioned earlier – it looks like the site serving the stats editor it got itself delisted from Google – my guess is for being overly spammy and having pop-unders…

At any rate, you can now download the Call of Duty 4 Stats Editor v1.4 from GameCopyWorld – still somewhat spammy, but definitely working.

Good luck guys! Hope none of your lost your CoD stats over the holidays.

UPDATE – CoD4 1.2 Patch Released

Call of Duty 4 has been updated once again – another fast update for this very popular game.

The official forum thread is at the Infinity Ward forum, but you can click on this link to simply download the file.

Addressed in this update – left/vertical lean offset glitch, and files have been modified in order to prepare for future mods – good to see them thinking ahead already as many players are still whining about non-issues like sniper rifles and such. This patch also includes the 1.1 update which addressed issues that had users losing ranks, profiles and XP when switching from ranked to un-ranked or modded servers.
No apparent issues with the CoD4 1.2 patch yet – I’m keeping my ears to the ground.
