OK guys - I know I got a lot of contacts, emails, and a few comments that got stuck in the spam filter regarding the location of the CoD4statseditor14.rar file I had mentioned earlier - it looks like the site serving the stats editor it got itself delisted from Google - my guess is for being overly spammy and having pop-unders…

At any rate, you can now download the Call of Duty 4 Stats Editor v1.4 from GameCopyWorld - still somewhat spammy, but definitely working.

Good luck guys! Hope none of your lost your CoD stats over the holidays.

Looks like some one has finally done it… I got wind today that there is a full-featured stats/ranks/perks editor in the wild for Call of Duty 4 v1.4

More info on this as it comes up, but I haven’t heard anything about a new CoD4 update, and apparently punkbuster doesn’t catch it…

FYI - the filename is cod4statseditor14.rar

Good luck trying to find it!

    UPDATE!

I was able to find a copy of the file floating around. It contains a text file which reads as follows:

    40 Colonel 56530
    41 Colonel I 59940
    42 Colonel II 63470
    43 Brigadier General 67120
    44 Brigadier General I 70890
    45 Brigadier General II 74780

    53 General I 110220
    54 General II 115190
    55 Commander 120280

And the program allows you to set the numbers for:

    • Score
    • Kills
    • Headshots
    • Assists
    • Streak
    • Death
    • Experience Points (CoD4 XP)

Seems like this lil nugget is brought to us by a team called “BONER” - thanks you wankers!

So basically this is the same as the Tsearch level-up stuff we had talked about when the game was released, but includes many other parameters to change. The tool will read current values for the items mentioned above, and allows you to change them while playing. Once you perform one of the tasks - headshot, assist, kill, etc., the value will go up a point, and when you have it set just below the mark needed for XP perks, or challenges, it will give it to you. You just need to exit the game, re-join another online game and go from there.

As has been reported in our comments, the easiest for XP is a free-for-all server, say one with 50 players max.

As for headshots, try a few sniper servers.

Happy Call of Duty 4 cheating!

    Enhanced Graphics controls
Greater Control over the graphics tweaks has been added, allowing you to tick to enable or disable individual settings which are relevant to the Graphics.

    Glossary
Whats the point of trying to tweak if you do not understand what the values mean? we at Biopaparat appreciate it can be a little daunting at first, which is why we have included a Glossary to explain what the graphics tweaks do.

World Detail slider bar decreasing no more!
We found the bug which was causing the world detail bar to decrease in game. this has now been ammended so please feel free to apply “Max Graphics settings” without effecting the World Detail.

The Application also detects your current settings.
somthing of which was causing confusion in version 3.0. before you would make changes, save them and close the program, and when you relaunched the application, they would no loinger be ticked, even though the changes were still applied. With the release of Version 3.5 it will detect all of your settings, including the colour of your crosshairs for example, and adjust the GUI of the application accordingly

Kill the two soldiers standing guard outside the house, as well as the two within. Use the silenced M4 so they don’t hear you coming. Grab the laptop inside to secure a piece of intelligence (3/30). Follow your team and clear the next grouping of houses. Follow Price into a house and exit into an open field for a rendezvous with Russian troops. Follow your team up the hill and get ready to make use of your sniper rifle. Help out where you can, but kill the machine gunners when ordered. Follow Kamarov through a building and back outside. Take cover in the building from the troops charging down the hill. Make a run up the hill when you don’t see any more approaching and then help the Russians take the town by sniping enemy troops from your high vantage point. Continue up the hill to the power station. Rappel down the cliffside and jump over the wall. Head into the village through the open garage and take cover behind the desk to kill the three soldiers that exit through the doorway. Jump out the window and go up the hill to the marked house. Equip your nightvision while you wait for Price to take point. Go through the house eliminating the soldiers guarding the informant. Go upstairs and clear all the rooms, including a bathroom on the second floor which contains another piece of intelligence (4/30). A good habit to form is to throw a flashbang into a room before you rush in, it could save your life. Follow the team outside to escort the informant to the waiting helicopter.

After the loading screen, you’ll be in a helicopter ready to board thefreighter. Kill the enemies in the bridge. Follow your team through the corridors, nabbing the laptop intelligence (1/30) from the crew quarters. Exit back onto the deck, and go down the stairs in front of you to follow your team towards the aft of the ship. The helicopter will kill the enemies shooting at you from the windows above and then report bingo fuel and return to base. Follow Price and the rest of the team through the watertight door, being sure to sweep both the left and right fire lanes. Head down the stairs and around the corner your team will come under fire from enemies down a hallway. Kill them and proceed to the red-lit area. Wait for a teammate to throw a flashbang into the area before heading through the door and killing two more crewmembers. Go up the short flight of stairs and kill the crewmember who appears from the right. Follow your team through the stacks of boxes to another door, which Price kicks in. As you go down the stairs, pick up laptop #2 from a table at the foot of the stairs (2/30). Move with your team, eliminating crewmembers on the catwalks above as well as ones hiding among the boxes. Flush them out with frag grenades and eventually you’ll clear the area. Proceed towards the blue cargo container. Grab the manifest (its the flashing clipboard) resting on top of the crate within, and prepare for all hell to break loose. Follow your team up the stairs to the catwalks, and don’t get left behind! Once on the deck, make a jump for the hovering helicopter.

Call of Duty 4 has been updated once again - another fast update for this very popular game.

The official forum thread is at the Infinity Ward forum, but you can click on this link to simply download the file.

Addressed in this update - left/vertical lean offset glitch, and files have been modified in order to prepare for future mods - good to see them thinking ahead already as many players are still whining about non-issues like sniper rifles and such. This patch also includes the 1.1 update which addressed issues that had users losing ranks, profiles and XP when switching from ranked to un-ranked or modded servers.
No apparent issues with the CoD4 1.2 patch yet - I’m keeping my ears to the ground.

Up until a few years ago I was getting fed up trying to show Japanese friends that linux was a viable option to Windows XP SP2, because the input method that Linux used at the time quite truthfully stank. The conclusion was that with an English keyboard, Windows was the way to go because of the (then) fancy Japanese input method applet.

Later on, I found out about Berry Linux, a Japanese LiveCD distro based on RedHat/Fedora that can easily show off Linux and allow users to do things like compose email that Japanese people can actually read (common problem on Windows), and surf the web in Japanese by default, instead of having to manually choose codepages and the like, which frustrates must computer users (if they haven’t already given up).

Berry Linux got an update today (to version 0.75), and now supports fancy-pants XGL - which I’m sure you’ll agree kicks Aero’s behind quite handily (footily?). If you’re trying to run Berry Linux Mini as a virtual machine you’ll get a console instead of X and you’ll lose the XGL capabilities, so I’d recommend testing it on a physical machine instead of a virtual machine - it’s a LiveCD so it’s quite safe to do so.

    Berry LinuxBerry LinuxBerry Linux

Here’s a feature rundown taken from the Berry Linux site’s English page (corrected a few typos):

      Common Features:

    • Support for Kernel-2.6. ALSA, ACPI, selinux.
    • Overlay Filesystem Support.
    • XGL, 3D Desktop, support.
    • Berry Linux is not necessary to install. (Root partition is in the RAMdisk using initrd, all commands are operated by being transfered from CD-ROM)
    • It can install on Windows without parting partitions to use Setup.exe or install.bat. (Using squashfs/cloop/loopback device)
    • It can install to your hard disk on Linux. (Use Berry Linux Installer or Copy under /BERRY/, and set up LILO or grub)
    • Berry Linux can boot from USB-HDD/memory.
    • Berry Linux uses WHIZ, a very sharp Kana-Kanji conversion system. (WHIZ Project)
    • If you push the windows key, and show the K-Menu.
    • Automatically recognizes USB storage, and show icons.
    • Berry Linux uses free Japanese True Type Fonts.
    • Berry Linux uses bootsplash when booting.
    • Berry Linux uses DHCP to connect the Network. (If you’d like to use PPPoE, you should setting up it on the Terminal)
    • It’s possible to save personal setting.
    • Red Hat Fedora compatible.
    • Using new technologies.
      Berry Linux’s Features:

    • You can listen to mp3 using BMP/XMMS, and play DVD/DivX using MPlayer, XINE and Kaffeine.
    • You can edit files of Microsoft Word, Excel by OpenOffice(TM).
      Berry Linux Mini’s Features:

    • Minimum Linux environment is available by using Berry Linux Mini.
    • Its file size is very small. (148.0MB)
    • It’s light. Because of the Window Manager is Fluxbox.
    • You can enjoy comfortable Linux environment.
Berry Linux Server’s Features: (Published Berry Linux Mini as alpha version)

    • Build the Linux Server easily.
    • Minimum Server Linux enviroment is available by using Berry Linux Server.
    • Its file size is very small. (161.3MB)
    • It’s light. Because of the Window Manager is WindowMaker.
    • You can enjoy comfortable Linux enviroment.

      To do:

    • Support Software Suspend.
    • Support Captive NTFS.

You can grab Berry Linux from the SourceForge page or the Berry Linux main page - but I’d recomend using SourceForge if you are in North America as it is much faster.

  • 9 Great, Free Applications that Work with Vista

  • del.icio.us" Digg" Reddit" Simpy" Yahoo!"

This is a list of my favorite Windows applications that I honestly couldn’t live without that also work on Microsoft Windows Vista RC as well, much to my surprise. All of the software is free to download and use, and in fact most of them are open source.

ConTEXT - ConTEXT is a free and lightweight editor for programming or can be used as a notepad replacement. ConTEXT supports find and replace in multiple files at once so changing one method in loads of files is no longer an issue. Works in Vista with no problems whatsoever.

Synergy - Synergy is like a software KVM, but only shares keyboard and mouse capabilities. Synergy is multiplatform, and I currently use it to have my keyboard and mouse work in Ubuntu, Vista, and my Mac Mini running Leopard with no problem at all! This way I get to use my favorite keyboard and mouse and get to free up some space on my desk at the same time.

VLC - VLC has been my favorite media player for years now. VLC comes with most of the codecs you will need to watch videos on your PC already. VLC is very lightweight, and JUST WORKS, something that can’t be said about many media players. The only issue with VLC in Vista is that it turns Aero Glass off while it is playing.

FileZilla - I use FileZilla to interface with clients that still haven’t moved to SCP. FileZilla is an open source FTP client that gets the job done, supporting drag and drop, SSL, and NAT to NAT connections. The only thing it is missing is FXP support, but that’s not really a big deal in my case. Works fine in Vista with no problems at all.

IMGBurn - I love IMGBurn. This is hands-down the easiest way to burn .IMG, .ISO and BIN/CUE disk images to backup CDs or DVDs. Free, open source, and awesome. Works a treat in Microsoft Vista Beta 2 as well.

WinSnap - I use WinSnap to make many of the screen shots you see on blandname. WinSnap supports full screen and windowed screen shots, and also allows for rotation and drop shadows if you feel the need.

Electric Sheep - I often refer to Electric Sheep as “the best screensaver ever”, but truth be told, it’s really a collection of computer-generated screensavers that allow users to vote on them using a Digg-like system. On Windows, Electric Sheep uses bit torrent to transfer the sheep data. Again, working just fine in Vista!

Xming - Xming is my prefered interface to remote Linux boxes. Xming is for Linux what RDP is for Windows - you get a local X server and acceleration that displays data from remote applications running on Linux machines. Tested more than a few times to a remote Ubuntu computer, and one Gentoo box with no caveats.

WinSCP3 - SCP is now my preferred file transfer method. Luckily my favorite client also works on Vista, or I may not have used it at all. Much like FileZilla, WinSCP3 has a very simple, streamlined interface that is feature-rich and gets the job done, even on Vista.

So there you have it: 9 free applications I couldn’t live without that work just fine on Vista, and make it easy for me to do my day-to-day tasks. Hopefully someday this list will include F-Spot and Amarok, but I’m happy with this as a start considering neither of them work on Windows XP SP2 either!

If you’re like me, you have many computers that you connect to remotely when away from work, or home, using RDP.

The easiest way to connect to all of these computers (aside from setting up a VPN) is to change the default port on which Windows will accept RDP connections.

Since things have changed a bit in Microsoft Windows Vista, here is how to change that port:
Click on the Start button, and navigate to accessories. From there, clik on the Run icon. Once the Run applet has started, we’ll enter the good ole regedit command. It still works like a charm!

Within the registry editor, navigate to:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\
    Terminal Server\WinStations\EH-Tcp

We want to change the registry key PortNumber in order to modify the default port. The default port is 3390, and I normally use ports in the 338x range, so double click on the key, check the decimal setting, the set the “Value data” to 3389.

Click OK, then close Regedit, and connect from a remote PC.

Note: you may want to create a firewall rule for port 3389 in order to allow connections.

With computers being as powerful as they are these days, I often find myself distracted by the many applications I have running at the same time, even though I really want to be writing, or at least should be writing.

Enter WriteRoom (now in 1.0), a full-screen text editor that reminds me of WordPerfect 5.0 - what used to be my favorite text editor back in the day.

    WriteRoom

As you can see from the spartan screenshot - in zoom or full-screen mode WriteRoom completely abolishes taskbars, menus, popups and other things that will get in the way of your writing tasks and the best part is it actually works.

WriteRoom supports cut, copy, paste - you know standard stuff. It also can spell-check as you write, and you can perform manual spell-checking in the case that automated spell-checking gets in your way. Rounding off the list, the minimal editor supports AppleScript, right-to-left writing, and speech-to-text, and of course printing. Pretty full-featured for a free editor, and encompasses most of the features that have Mac users scrambling for a copy of Microsoft Word.

For you Windows people out there, you can always download DarkRoom, the Windows equivalent of WriteRoom that is also totally free.
